680-PS Hyundai hydrogen racer paves the way to a cell-powered future

Hyundai is convinced that hydrogen is a potent and sustainable power source for the automotive industry, and claims that prices for fuel-cell-powered cars will drop to be on par with those of normal EVs by the late 2020s.

The Vision FK pictured here is the South Korean manufacturer’s statement of intent. It is a two-door electric sports car rated at 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW), which can cover 600 km (373 miles) on a full tank. Refueling only takes a few minutes. The full acceleration data has never been disclosed, but the company did say it needed less than four seconds for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) launch.

Acting within the framework of its hydrogen transport strategy, Hyundai will be introducing a new generation of fuel cell technology in 2023. The system is estimated to be 50% cheaper, 30% more compact and twice as powerful as the current solutions.
