Hyundai M.Vision can drive itself sideways

Hyundai has attended this year’s CES with a slew of smart robocars, and we have not mentioned the M.Vision Concept yet. The tiny urban ride runs on hydrogen power and can rotate all four wheels up to 90 degrees, enabling it to move sideways easily.

The technology behind the trick is called the Hyundai e-corner module. If the name sounds familiar, that is because it first cropped up in the news a few years ago. We haven’t seen it in action until now, though. Motorized wheel units come equipped with their own brakes, suspension and steering mechanisms.

Moving forward, the Korean automotive giant plans to install the e-corner module on various city transports, including autonomous shuttle buses. Full-scale tests should begin as soon as the company conducts a study on whether the solution can be made commercially viable.
