Hyundai’s robot dog gains color vision, improves dancing chops

Remember when Hyundai bought out Boston Dynamics and made a service station worker out of their robotic dog, Spot? Well, the doggo now comes back with enhanced sensing abilities, a new control tablet and a smarter, faster charging device. Oh, and it dances like a pro.

A set of five stereoscopic cameras enable Spot to receive a colorful representation of the surrounding world, which it doesn’t really need at this moment – not yet – but its operator does. The tablet has grown in size considerably and now offers a much wider assortment of AI-powered features. Thanks to a faster battery, the electric canine now feels completely reinvigorated after just one hour of charging.

Hyundai uses the Boston Dynamics robot for various small tasks at its manufacturing facilities. The robot goes looking for people when they are needed, measures temperatures, monitors various test routines and fire safety compliance, and even occasionally assists the security of the industrial complex.
