Hyundai takes its newest prototype SUV to winter tests

The South Korean automotive giant Hyundai has begun winter road tests of its still-nameless SUV development mule. The new car is likely to premiere in 2019 with a soft hybrid engine on board. Industry-savvy people say it’s going to be called Hyundai Grand Santa Fe, but the theory hasn’t received any kind of official support so far.

However it is, the front part of the latest Hyundai off-road vehicle does bear a strong resemblance to that of the current Santa Fe SUV. In turn, its extended rear clearly implies an extra row of seats.

According to an inside source, the new crossover will be based on the same car platform as the KIA Telluride, which should also make it into production soon.

An earlier statement from Hyundai said the car would mainly target the U.S. market.
