Hyundai has revealed its plans regarding the impending Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The biggest emphasis will be made on innovative mobility means: the company will be bringing a whole vertiport mockup to the show to demonstrate its latest flying taxi concept.
Hyundai’s Supernal division is the one handling the research and development of aerial personal transports. Aside from an electric VTOL, the company is currently developing a whole ecosystem for it and working on user interface.
The Korean automaker’s biggest premiere at the CES next month will be a vertiport – a minor transport hub for flying taxis. Its creators believe that such ‘airbus stops’ will find use both in urban and rural environments, as well as on the rooftops of skyscrapers and multi-level parking lots.
In cities, aerial taxis will be most useful for transporting passengers to and from airports located near big cities. Hyundai boasts that it knows how to seamlessly integrate this kind of transports into the existing infrastructure.
As for the eVTOL Concept itself, very little is known about the aerial taxi. In all likelihood, it will look like a large drone with multiple rotors mounted on rotary consoles. These consoles will be able to realign the rotors in mid-flight to balance between rising force and lateral propulsion.
Regular cars will be represented as well, but not directly. Hyundai says it will focus on eco-friendly powertrain solutions, primarily those based on hydrogen. Aside from that, there are no details right now.
