Hyundai’s Supernal division specializing in aerial transports has unveiled the latest version of its S-A2 flying taxi, which can take a pilot and four passengers on board for a swift short-range flight. The company confirmed that it had actual production plans in mind for 2028.
The S-A2 is essentially just a passenger pod suspended below rotor blades on pylons. It has an aerodynamic tail to help with balance and can auto-adjust its tilt angle with the rotors. The propellers let the air taxi take off and land vertically, but switch to horizontal propulsion when needed.
Only the basic parameters have been revealed so far. The electric vehicle can rise to a maximum altitude of 450 meters (1,476 feet) and fly at a cruise speed of roughly 200 km/h (125 mph). Its main purpose is short-range city flights spanning 40-60 km (25–37 miles). The manufacturer assures us that the propeller noise is rather mild and comparable to that of common household appliances, so residents of high-rise buildings will not be too disturbed by the flights.
The exact range per charge remains to be revealed. Supernal says it is planning on making the battery packs replaceable to avoid long charging times.
