Hyundai N family to get a new hot hatch

The Racing Midship concept series has paved the path for a new mid-engine “hot hatch” model, said Albert Biermann, chief of the Hyundai’s sports-oriented N division.

“Yeah, we have been working on this,” he said. “Like the Racing Midship, which we’ve done three versions of. We are still working on these cars, trying different things. Maybe someday we will have such a car.”

The original Racing Midship Concept - RM14 – came out four years ago based on the Veloster platform and packing a 295-horsepower (220 kW) engine.

The first update saw the daylight in 2015 with the RM15 model name. Featuring a space-frame aluminum chassis and part-carbon body, it was nearly 200 kg (440 lb) lighter than its predecessor. It came equipped with a roll cage, aluminum suspension components and forged 19” wheels and could accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds.
