Spanish magazine km77.com has tested the wallet-friendly Hyundai Bayon crossover for its ability to evade sudden obstacles on the road and get back into the lane (the so-called ‘moose test’). It performed quite well.
In the best attempt, the driver was able to pass the trial at 75 km/h (46.6 mph), which is only slightly below the popular benchmark of 77 km/h (47.8 mph). As you can notice in the video, the car also demonstrated good steering response throughout the entire test.
At 77 km/h, the Bayon missed returning to the lane (the so-called third corridor) and hit some cones in the process. Having said that, more upmarket SUVs such as the Hyundai Tucson or Ford Mustang Mach-E demonstrated worse results. Furthermore, the car completed a slalom test easily, suggesting good overall handling and stability.
Hyundai unveiled the Bayon for Europe last spring. It is 4.2 meters long and comes powered by a 1.2-liter non-turbo engine rated at 84 PS (83 hp / 62 kW), although you can also go for a 1.0-liter turbo engine available in 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) and 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) variants. All three specs are front-wheel-drive only. Prices for Europe remain to be announced, but CarWOW believes it will begin from £19,000 in the UK, which translates into roughly $25,600.
