Hyundai Elantra spied with a Tesla-style head unit

Car spotters have tracked down an eighth-generation Hyundai Elantra running road tests, reports Korean Car Blog. They managed to snap a few pics of the Pleos infotainment system the company announced this spring.

The images reveal a large display in the middle of the dash that seems divided in two sections in a manner similar to Tesla’s. According to Hyundai, the Pleos infotainment system is being designed by a whole dedicated department to run on Android Auto OS (AAOS) and offer a user experience similar to any modern smartphone. It is also said to benefit from Hyundai Gleo AI, although it remains to be seen how exactly.

There is also a rectangular display strip in front of the driver, mounted visibly higher than most digital instrument clusters. It’s probably done to keep it out of the way of the steering wheel, which is certainly an issue with some conservative digital dashes. We should be able to see it up close in early 2026, because the new Elantra is slated for debut in second quarter of the year.

The fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson slated for H2 2026 launch is next in line to get the Pleos multimedia system. By 2030, the Korean automaker expects more than 20,000,000 vehicles worldwide running it.

Feature-wise, the system will integrate with a number of web-based services using Pleos Connect and store user preferences in Pleos ID. Using the latter, drivers will be able to log in from any car – even a rental one – to instantly get their preferences applied.
