The Exter is shaping up to become Hyundai’s cheapest crossover utility vehicle in India. The reservations are already running, and here is what we know about the model to date.
The new official photo reveals an unusual-looking radiator grille, a rather pronounced bumper and multi-tier headlights alongside H-shaped DRLs. The fenders follow the same design direction as the Mufasa SUV revealed in China not long ago, and the c-pillars sport the same relief as the grille at the front.
A new exterior paint called Ranger Khaki is available, which Hyundai claims helps highlight the ‘adventurous character’ of the Exter. The size of the car is unknown, but it is expected to be under four meters (13.1 feet) long.
There are still no interior shots, but we know that there will be two engines to choose from. The entry-level spec will utilize a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter engine that may come from the Grand i10 model, Autocar India reports. It will be rated at 83 PS (82 hp / 61 kW) and 114 Nm (84 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission options remain to be revealed, but Hyundai India typically offers a choice between five-speed manual and Smart Auto AMT (electronic clutch).
Higher trim levels will benefit from a superior 1.2-liter engine taking natural gas and petrol. Its output has yet to be revealed.
The live sales are expected to begin in mid-summer. We should learn the prices closer to the launch date.
