1986 Hyundai Grandeur lives again as an electromod

To celebrate 35 years of its Grandeur model, Hyundai has built the Heritage Series Grandeur, a one-off restomod with retro-futuristic looks, an electric powertrain, and a seriously modernized cabin.

The exterior has stayed the same except for individual elements. The radiator grille is new and the lighting utilizes ‘Pixel LED’ elements with the taillights in particular resembling those of the Ioniq 5. The side mirrors and wheels are also special, but the rest stays faithful to the original.

Inside, the single-spoke wheel and the A/T gear selector are still present, but the analog dashboard is no more. A widescreen display replaces it, acting both as a gauge cluster and as an infotainment screen. Another touchscreen – a vertical one – can be found near the center console. Hyundai and Samick Musical Instruments chose to fashion it into a ‘digital piano’ of sorts, letting the driver and the front passenger play piano tunes through an 18-channel audio system on board.

The center tunnel now houses a lockbox for miscellaneous items, while the ceiling sports an unusual lighting system with an ‘infinite mirror’ effect to it. All the extra lighting installed casts a bronze hue on everything. It is reminiscent of Edison’s lamps and fits in nicely with the whole retro-futuristic theme.

No powertrain details have been revealed.
