One-off Hyundai Grandeur convertible looks awesome and is road-worthy

Hyundai never graced us with a convertible version of its deluxe Grandeur saloon, so a group named Peaches from South Korea decided to take matters into their own capable hands.

The Newtro Grandeur project turned out unique in a whole number of ways. First, the team did away with the b-pillars, but elected to keep the quarter-panel windows, resulting in an unusual but stylish roofless look. Second, they applied a special graphics to the hood cover inspired by the nation’s classic furniture art. Perhaps most importantly, the project was carried out not by grease monkeys, as one might expect, but by a group of fashion designers, artists, musicians and video directors.

We are told that the cabriolet is entirely street-legal, and the two videos showing it in action on public roads seem to support that claim. This also means the whole body received numerous reinforcements to compensate for the lack of b-pillars and the roof. Some of the parts were custom-fabricated for this project alone.

The interior is dominated by 1980s-era South Korean chic: fresh leather adorns the door panels and seats, and the gear level and dash controls look more up-to-date and stylish than they ever were in the stock Grandeur.
