Top Gear puts a name on the Car of the Year

The Top Gear crew has drawn conclusions of its Car of the Year award, naming winners across 19 categories. Hyundai won Manufacturer of the Year, while its compact-sized hot hatch – the i20 N – won both Best Sports Car and the grand prize.

BMW i4 won Sedan of the Year despite technically being a liftback. Pininfarina Battista scooped the Hypercar award, while the four-liter naturally aspirated engine of the Singer DLS coupe won Engine of the Year. The mill makes around 500 horsepower.

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS grabbed the Premium Car prize. Other battery cars also fared quite well, the Renault Megane E‑Tech winning Compact Family Car and the Ford Mustang Mach‑E snatching the medal in the larger family hauler segment. Porsche Mission R was crowned the best concept and Kia EV6 the best SUV.

Special notions were made of the Ford Bronco (“American Car of the Year”) and Lotus Emira (“The Most Anticipated New Car”).

The Hyundai i20 N debuted in last October with a 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) turbo engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
