Hyundai reveals new i40 sedan/estate in South Korea

The South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company has come out with the refreshed i40 sedan/estate vehicle range for the domestic market. Neither of the cars has changed much on the outside, but both now come with a wider list of available equipment and options.

Speaking of which, it is probably about time Hyundai considered bringing out the next-generation i40 series, rather than another minor facelift like this. Still, the company apparently feels at home with its current release strategy. The i40 received its first facelift in 2014, so this would be the second one.

Both the sedan and the estate model get new cellular grilles and restyled sets of 18-inch alloy wheels – and that would be it for the exterior changes. On the inside, novelty comes in the form of new seat upholstery, a redesigned dashboard and a more capable infotainment system. The base trim now also includes emergency brake.

Both vehicles still rely on the old 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 166 hp / 124 kW and the same six-speed automatic transmission to move around.

A new base-spec i40 sedan can be purchased in South Korea starting at what amounts to U.S. $23,700. If you’d rather like the estate/wagon version, that would be U.S. $24,400 and above. The European release should follow soon.
