Hyundai Insteroid hits spotlight in Korea

Hyundai has formally unveiled its wild Insteroid Concept in Seoul, South Korea. The subcompact electric off-roader has no production prospects, although more than a few of us wouldn’t mind to see it made en masse.

The show car looks confidently over-the-top with its massive fender flares, vented side sills, sporty bumpers, roof-mounted air intake and gargantuan rear wing. Unique wheels round off the bold image.

The interior is fairly ascetic and has a rounded, slotted bar instead of a traditional dashboard. The instruments are tastefully retro-futuristic, the steering wheel is yoke-shaped, and the parking brake lever is impossible to miss given how huge it is. A roll cage is not absent, either, and a large sound system panel sits where the rear bench usually is.

Hyundai admits the chassis and drivetrain are stock Inster fare, but software tweaks allow the Insteroid to cook up asphalt donuts in a dedicated Drift Mode.

The car will be exhibited live at the Mobility Show in Seoul on April 3–13, 2025, so drop in if you’d like a closer look.
