Ioniq 6 and 7 present powertrain details

Ioniq – a sub-brand founded by Hyundai for electric cars – has revealed two of its upcoming models, the Ioniq 6 sedan and the Ioniq 7 SUV.

The sedan will arrive late next year based on the eGMP architecture and will belong the same class as the Sonata. Inspired by the Hyundai Prophecy Concept (see the gallery and the video), it will be available with one motor good for 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and dual motors capable of 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW). A 73-kWh traction battery should be enough for over 480 kilometers (300 miles) of uninterrupted driving.

The Ioniq 7 will be coming in three years as a full-size seven-seat SUV comparable in size to the Hyundai Palisade. The company only reveals one powertrain for it so far: the 313-PS dual-motor one mentioned above. The battery will be rated at 100 kWh, but the greater curb weight will equalize the range to the same as that of the Ioniq 6 (300 miles).

In case you missed it, the brand’s first production car – the Ioniq 5 – debuted three months ago. It is slightly larger than the Tucson while sharing the power and range numbers with the 6 and 7 models. The rear seat row can be moved 135 mm (5.3 inches) front and back, and the front seat console can also be shifted within 140 mm (5.5 inches). The model has become a sales hit shortly after pre-orders started.
