Hyundai invests $1.5B+ in a new factory in Ulsan

Hyundai has laid the first stone in the construction of a car plant in Ulsan, South Korea. The industrial site is designed to produce 200,000 vehicles per year, mainly electric ones.

The factory, which is expected to require over $1.5 billion in investments before it can be completed, will employ an innovative manufacturing platform powered by an AI. It will help optimize the logistics while improving safety and reducing the environmental footprint, Hyundai claims. Last but not least, it will be flexible enough to allow for the entire assembly line to be reconfigured or optimized quickly based on the changing priorities of the global market.

The first cars should roll off the factory belt in early 2026. The first vehicle to go into production in Ulsan will be a still-unannounced crossover SUV from the Genesis sub-brand.
