Ioniq 5 shows up on teasers

Hyundai has shared several teaser pics and a short video of its Ioniq 5 set to debut next month.

The crossover/hatchback mashup draws inspiration from the Hyundai 45 Concept introduced two years ago. In turn, the 45 pays homage to the classic 1974 Pony model. The automaker promises to keep the production car stylistically close to the prototype, although some of the smaller details may be revised. LED lights with a pixelated look to them and large 20-inch wheels seem to be the main exterior highlights right now.

The Ioniq 5 will be the first vehicle to come based on the E-GMP platform that supports new traction batteries and RWD by default. Drivers will be able to replenish 100 kilometers (62 miles) worth of range within five minutes of charging from an 800V, 350kW terminal. A feature called Vehicle to Load (V2L) will enable power sharing with external electric appliances (max. 3.5kW).

The Ioniq family will later expand to incorporate larger EVs, such as the four-door Ioniq 6 and the SUV-shaped Ioniq 7.
