Shortly after the official premiere of Hyundai’s first EV – the SUV named Ioniq 5 – car spotters have tracked down a camo-free test vehicle. Let us have a closer look!
Aside from a darker paint scheme, the car looks just like the one on the official pics, complete with pixelated headlights, multi-spoke wheels and silver body accents. These traits pay homage to the manufacturer’s first production car – the Pony, which came out in 1975.
At 4,635 mm (15.21 feet) long, the SUV has a wheelbase spanning three whole meters (9.84 feet). Even the top-of-the-line Hyundai Palisade has around 100 mm (4 inches) less space between the axles. The width amounts to 1,890 mm (6.2 feet) and the height to 1,605 mm (5.27 feet).
The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first model based on the all-electric unitized car platform known as the E-GMP. The top spec ships with a 72.6-kWh traction battery and has 480 kilometers (298 miles) of WLTP-rated range. Its dual-motor powertrain produces 306 PS (302 hp / 225 kW) and takes the off-roader from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds. Charging at a 350kW station replenishes the battery from 10 to 80 percent within mere 18 minutes.
Sales in Europe will begin before mid-year.
