Rumor: Hyundai gets ready to facelift the Ioniq 5 a year after launch

According to ET News, Hyundai is preparing an update for the all-electric Ioniq 5 SUV, which is primarily tech-focused and should extend its range by 10% or more.

Right now, the car is only available with a 72.6-kWh battery rated for 423 kilometers (263 miles) of range in South Korea. Reports claim that the company plans to switch the Ioniq 5 series to the larger 77.4-kWh battery standard used in the technically related Kia EV6. Doing so should extend the range to around 485 km (300 miles).

Over-the-air software updates are also expected, but details remain unknown. Some sources report that Hyundai is working on improving the infotainment system and electronic aids.

The refreshed Ioniq 5 may hit the domestic market in early 2022, driven by the booming demand for the car. In this year alone, it set a new record in the automaker’s book by attracting the most pre-orders of any new car ever. In mid-October, the company also revealed that the initial production batch for Australia sold out within hours.
