Hyundai Ioniq 5 powers a deer farm in Arctic for three days

The Ioniq 5 Vehicle-to-Load feature has withstood another test in the real world. Hyundai brought one of its cars to a deer farm located up in an Arctic section of Norway, where normal electrification has no reach, and turned it into a portable power source.

The farm received electricity from the battery of the car over a period of three days, although the company openly admits it was only supplied when needed. Among other things, the car provided power to an outdoor kitchen and a hut using the V2L feature.

Hyundai believes that it succeeded in demonstrating how people living in remote areas could benefit from such technology, charging and powering their appliances without harming the environment.

Both the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 ship with the V2L already included in the base spec. The E-GMP platform the cars are based upon features a built-in unit called the ICCU, which simultaneously manages the power going into the traction battery and the power coming out.
