Video: Watch a Hyundai Ioniq 5 prototype sidle into a parking spot

Hyundai Mobis has shared a video with an Ioniq 5 EV moving sideways thanks to a technology called e-Corner. The company revealed e-Corner at the beginning of the year as a better alternative to 4WS, but this is the first time we are seeing it in in real action.

The video puts an emphasis on maneuverability. The premise is clear and will be familiar to every car owner who has even been to a city: parking in a tight spot. Thanks to the e-Corner units installed on every wheel, the car completes the challenge effortlessly.

As you can see, the wheels actually rotate 90 degrees to the side, allowing the crossover SUV to slot into the tight parking pocket by sidling perpendicular to its own axis.

The technology is still very much a work in progress, but Hyundai hopes to be able to implement it in mass-market EVs soon, at least partially.
