Ioniq 5 N spins off a 650-PS eN1 Cup Edition

The street-legal Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has just received a racecar counterpart: the eN1 Cup. It is primarily designed for the automaker’s single-make tournament, but has the same powertrain as the original. The first race is scheduled on April 27, 2024.

Like the standard Ioniq 5 N, the racecar packs two e-motors delivering a combined 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW) and a battery pack holding up to 84 kilowatt-hours. A fast charging station can replenish it from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Hyundai hasn’t revealed any acceleration or range numbers yet, but we know that the road-legal version sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and maxes out at 260 km/h (161 mph).

Compared to its “civilian” counterpart, the eN1 Cup benefits from chassis improvements, adjustable shock absorbers, six-piston brake calipers and 18-inch wheels shod in slick tires. The company says all tournament participants will be able to pick their preferred tire vendor. The aerodynamic kit, the bumpers, the fender flares and the large rear wing are also new.

Inside, the EV has an FIA-compliant roll cage, six-point safety harnesses on the seats, a fire extinguishing system and an emergency power break.

The Hyundai Monocup will commence in late April, but the first season is considered a “test mode”. The company hopes that this new event will prove its commitment to clean motorsports and promote racing in South Korea.
