Hyundai may have shown us its large electric SUV Ioniq 7 already, but the preceding Ioniq 6 sedan has yet to debut in its finite, market-ready form. The good news is that the waiting seems almost over: here it is, being tested in Europe in a somewhat lighter camo wrap than before.
Like the smaller Ioniq 5, the sedan sports Pixel LED lights peeking from under the wrap at the rear end. The cutouts in the wrap on the trunk lid must be there for the reversing camera and the middle brake light. The exposed rear window confirms that the Ioniq 6 is a sedan, rather than a liftback.
The wheels look aerodynamically optimized, while the pull-out door handles appear identical to those of the Ioniq 5. The roof is visibly slanted towards the back, which will definitely affect the headroom for the rear seat occupants.
Earlier on, Hyundai postponed the launch of the Ioniq 6 to mid-2022 in order to make the body 20 mm (0.8”) longer and redesign bumpers. Korean media reported last summer that the company also considered replacing the old 72.6-kWh traction battery with a larger 77.4-kWh pack.
