Hyundai has sold all 2,500 Ioniq 6 EVs via pre-orders in Europe within 24 hours of the announcement, despite premium pricing across the board.
The Ioniq 6 First Edition makes use of two electric motors joining efforts for 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 605 Nm (445 lb-ft) of torque. It also gets a large 77.4-kWh battery pack sufficient for 520 km (323 miles) of range, lots of preinstalled equipment and some exclusive stylistic touches, like 20-inch wheels and a special interior trim.
Orders were open in Germany, France, UK, Norway and the Netherlands. The company was able to sell 1,000 units in Germany alone, despite the €66,400 starting price in that country. To put things into perspective, the Tesla Model 3 costs from €63,500 in Germany.
All buyers will get their cars in February-March 2023, the company claims. Standard Ioniq 6 modifications are set to go on sale later this year, but options and prices remain to be announced.
This would not be the first time Ioniq EVs caused such a stir. The marque’s first production car, the Ioniq 5 SUV, attracted 25,000 buyers in South Korea in a day. In Australia, the first production batch was sold out in a matter of hours.
