NACTOY-2023 announces the list of finalists

The jury of the North American Car of the Year award has announced three candidates in each of the three main competition categories. In the resulting short list of nine, five cars run on electricity alone and two more are hybrids, while the last two are still only sold with ICE engines.

The final results will be revealed at the beginning of the next year. In the meantime, let’s have a look at the candidates.

The Trucks category has the Ford F-Series Super Duty, the Chevrolet Colorado and the Silverado EV vying for the title. The category for light passenger cars lists the Ioniq 6, Toyota Prius/Prius Prime, and Honda Accord. The Utility category (mostly represented by SUVs and crossovers) is headed by the Kia EV9, Volvo EX30, and Genesis GV70 Electrified.

A jury of half a hundred American and Canadian car journalists chose these nine models out of a long list of 52 candidates. According to Jeff Gilbert, the manager of NACTOY, the fact that EVs are prominently featured in the list emphasizes how important electric transports is becoming for the automakers, while presenting customers with a wider-than-ever choice of powertrains.
