Yet another Kona erupted into a fireball when connected to a wall socket in South Korea. The authorities are currently investigating the matter.
In October 2020, Hyundai started recalling Kona EVs both on the domestic market and overseas after receiving numerous reports of cars spontaneously catching fire when charging. The recall campaign encompassed 77,000 cars, including around 25,500 in South Korea.
The most interesting part is that the SUV that burned down this time around had already been recalled and repaired, which apparently did not prevent the incident. With this in mind, it appears that Hyundai may have still more to learn about its EVs and their associated fire risks before coming up with a solution that works.
