Hyundai’s first pickup gets spotted out in the open

The Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept debuted five years ago and should finally reach us in 2021, as the company promised last November. Today, the first spy shots showing the truck in action leaked online.

The development mule still wears plenty of camo, but you can still see it sports a Crew Cab and not just a Double Cab like the concept.

It is official that the newcomer will get its three-liter, six-cylinder turbo diesel engine from the Genesis GV80, but the rest of the specs remain a mystery. Rumors claimed at first that the truck would be based on the Santa Fe SUV platform or another similar crossover architecture. This seemed realistic given Hyundai’s intention to produce the Santa Cruz in the same Alabama factory as the abovementioned SUV. However, a later bit of gossip contradicted it, claiming that the Santa Cruz would boast a body-on-frame design.
