Hyundai flashes Santa Cruz pickup, insists it’s not a pickup

The Hyundai Santa Cruz will hit the show spotlight on April 15, but in the meantime, Hyundai keeps us entertained with new bits of information – including the one where they insist it is not, as a matter of fact, a pickup truck at all.

The company claims it will be pioneering a whole new segment of the car market with the Santa Cruz, which it calls in a video a special car for urban and suburban adventure lovers. The ad originates from the Hyundai Design Center in California; it remains to be seen just how the above statement precludes the model from being a pickup.

Features on the official list include a compact-sized unitized body, AWD, powerful engines, and Tucson vibes in overall design thanks to the same platform being used.

North America will be the key market for the model, and production should start in Alabama this summer. Honda Ridgeline and Ford Maverick are named among its main competitors.
