Check out a Hyundai truck converted into a badass rally car

Counting among the world’s smallest pickups, the Hyundai Santa Cruz lends itself well to urban driving and the occasional rally raid, as this video from the all-female Rebelle Rally testifies.

The crew calling itself Brute Squad has 2,580 kilometers (1,603 miles) to traverse without any digital navigation means – just the old-timey maps and compasses. The jury actually goes through the pain of confiscating everybody’s phones prior to the race.

The Santa Cruz shown here has been slightly modified in accordance with the regulations, receiving a lift kit, underbody protection, all-terrain tires and additional lights. A spare wheel was also installed and an emergency kit was taken on board to rescue the truck out of potholes and sand traps.

The video says nothing about tech, but we would imagine this particular pickup being an SEL Premium spec armed with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW). A dual-clutch transmission sends the torque to all four wheels in this spec.
