Hyundai will be recalling several hundred Santa Fe crossovers in the USA that may occasionally experience the image on their dash gauge displays turning upside down, complete with all the text and the gauges. There have been no incident reports tied to the case, but the risk is there.
Owners of 714 2022MY Santa Fe hybrids will have to visit dealerships for a full dashboard replacement free of charge. The issue only concerns units manufactured from October 25 to December 1, 2021.
According to Hyundai, a faulty resistor may start working incorrectly at ‘extremely low’ temperatures after being parked outside, leading to the reversal of the display image as soon as the owner of the car attempts to cold-start it. Just how cold it has to be is not specified.
Both Hyundai and the NHTSA admit that flipped-over gauges can confuse drivers and cause them to panic, or otherwise be difficult to read correctly in real time. As such, replacement is advisable at the first opportunity.
