New Hyundai Sonata for China brings more wheelbase and legroom

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata facelift for China will launch in May this year, offering 50 mm (2 inches) of extra legroom compared to the international version.

The new wheelbase thus amounts to 2,890 mm (9.48 feet). The full body length gains 55 mm (2.2 inches) and now amounts to 4,955 mm (16.26 feet). The carmaker says this will essentially give more legroom to those sitting in the rear.

The exterior appearance of the China-spec Sonata is in no way different from the international spec except for the bumpers. Inside, the infotainment system and the dashboard are newer, the HVAC interface is touch-sensitive, and the center tunnel has been slightly redesigned.

The engine lineup is different. Customers in China may decide between a 1.5 TSI rated at 170 hp (127 kW), mated to a pre-selective DCT, and a larger 2.0 TSI rated at 240 hp (179 kW) and partnered with an eight-speed automatic.
