Rumor: Hyundai Sonata to get a major stylistic overhaul in 2023

There is hardly any arguing that the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is a relatively fresh production car – but it is also a polarizing one, eliciting love-hate kind of reactions from drivers. It seems that the Korean automaker is determined to change it soon.

According to an inside informer cited by Auto Post, Hyundai Motor Company has basically admitted the new Sonata was a flop design-wise and decided to cancel a planned update to it in favor of a much more comprehensive stylistic overhaul. There are no intentions to change the tech or the features, as the update will focus solely on the exterior.

Motor1.com mentioned contacting Hyundai for an official comment, but hasn’t posted a response since.

Sales of the Sonata model have plummeted over the past few years, and not just in South Korea, where it used to be one of the nationwide best-sellers, but no longer even makes it into the top five. Hyundai reported moving only 76,997 units in the USA last year, a dramatic fall from the usual 200,000+ units.
