Spied: Hyundai Sonata going AWD for the first time

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata refresh is bringing about more than just the usual nip-and-tuck: according to Carscoops publishing these spy shots, the company adds AWD to the option list and revamps the cabin, too.

The test vehicle spotted was wearing thick camo, but a sticker on one of the (thankfully clean) windows told us all we wanted to know. Among other things, the Sontata received an all-wheel-drive system for the first time on record.

This is not to say the move was completely unexpected. The Kia K5 – which runs on the same chassis – landed with four driven wheels in its new generation that came out three years ago. Perhaps the system used here is the same or similar.

The engine volume is also specified: 2.5 liters. It is unclear what specific engine model it could be, though. The Sonata could get the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter mill rated at 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW), for example. It could also get a different turbocharged 2.5-liter mill powering the Sonata N Line and the Kia K5 GT.

As for the interior, there seems to be a single large display bringing together the digital dash cluster and the multimedia system. The sheer abundance of camo makes us believe that a complete overhaul is coming to the cabin, too.
