Report: Hyundai to axe the Veloster for good next month

Citing its own sources, Hankyung reports that the Hyundai Veloster four-door hatchback will be permanently put out of production next month. The high-end Veloster N version is expected to follow suit despite earlier claims that it would stay around for a while longer.

Apparently, a sharp decline in sales is the main reason for this decision. Hankyung points out that Hyundai only managed to move 99 Veloster N units on the domestic market in Januray-April 2022. The Avante N, known otherwise as the Elantra, sold 1,624 units despite being similar in terms of tech and features.

The situation worldwide is largely comparable. The Drive claims the automaker only sold 86 Veloster hatchbacks in the United States in January, down from 855 units in the same month three years ago.

Aside from flatlining sales, the model may have to go in order to free up the production capacities necessary for the next-gen Hyundai Kona SUV. The latter is set to go on sale next year and will be made in Ulsan, South Korea, where the Veloster has been made for the past 11 years.
