After two years of absence from the Chinese car market, the thoroughly updated Hyundai Verna returns. In some markets, the same model is localized as the Hyundai Solaris.
The fifth and latest generation of the once-popular sedan/saloon came out in China in 2016, but the sales were wrapped up a year later due to non-competitive pricing. In the two years that followed, the more affordable Hyundai Reina has filled the gap. Now, however, the Verna is ready to make a comeback – but in a different guise.
Specifically, the car is now identical to its cheaper sibling, the Solaris, in many aspects. For one, it is 4,405 mm (4.45 ft.) long, 1,720 mm (5.64 ft.) wide and 1,455 mm (4.74 ft.) tall with 2,600 mm (8.53 ft.) separating the axles. These are the precise dimensions of the Solaris cars sold in Russia and CIS. It also now has the same engine range as the Solaris.
Unfortunately, no one can say what specs the new Hyundai Verna/Solaris will have when it reaches other markets outside of China. Lately, Hyundai has decided to move away from its former strategy of making models with uniform specs for all markets. Instead, the South Korean carmaker now adjusts every model to its target region. So, we will just have to wait and see.
