Hyundai recalls nearly half a million cars over a braking issue

A software defect in U.S.-market Hyundai Tucson crossovers and Santa Cruz pickups can lead to their emergency brake feature activating without any valid reason to do so, potentially leading to an accident.

The automaker is therefore recalling a whopping 421,080 cars produced for the model years 2025 and 2026. The issue is said to be fixable with a simple software update, but still requires a visit to the dealership – no over-the-air fix this time around, it seems.

Just last week, Hyundai admitted that its Elantra sedan for the U.S. market could catch on fire due to an overheating engine control unit (ECU). The recall encompassed 54,337 Elantras made from 2024 through 2026.
