Infiniti will discontinue its Q70 executive car series in the USA over dwindling sales. Only 2,196 units has been sold since the beginning of the year, forcing the premium marque to stop production.
The sedan ships with a choice between two non-turbo gas engines: a 3.7 V6 @ 334 hp / 250 kW and 366 Nm / 270 lb-ft and a 5.6 V8 @ 422 hp / 315 kW and 561 Nm / 414 lb-ft. Both link to a seven-speed DCT transmission, and the drive can be on the rear axle or both. Length-wise, two version are offered: standard wheelbase (2,900 mm / 9.5 ft.) and LWB (3,051 mm / 10 ft.). The elongated Infiniti Q70L is also available in China, albeit with a much-weaker two-liter, four-cylinder mill under the hood (211 hp / 157 kW).
The discontinuation has nothing to do with succession. The company stresses that, if the Q70 does receive a successor model, this won’t happen until at least late 2021. The alleged newcomer will probably utilize the same chassis as the upcoming Nissan Ariya and thus become a hybrid or even a BEV. As for the design, it might take cues from the last year’s Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept, which had a VC-Turbo engine.
The latest generation of Infiniti’s execute sedan is called M, and it emerged back in the fall of 2009. In 2013, the company renamed it to Q70, and in 2014, the model has gone through a minor facelift, gaining new headlights, radiator grille, and bumpers. Watch the video for more details.
