Infiniti said this summer that it wanted to launch a coupe-shaped crossover series called the QX55.Today, the first teaser pic of the model went live.
The image shows the slanted roof of a snappy-looking car which resembles the QX50 SUV at its shoulder line – unsurprisingly, since it comes based on the latter, as well as the first generation of the Infiniti FX (see video). However, the Japanese premium carmaker emphasizes that you cannot consider the QX55 their direct descendant. The newcomer has much smaller body dimensions, has a transversely mounted engine and comes front-axle driven. In turn, the FX is a RWD SUV with lateral engine layout.
The powertrain has not been announced yet, but we expect Infiniti to source it from the QX50. The model ships with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which delivers between 249 and 272 hp (186 – 203 kW) to the wheels, depending on the market. The transmission type is CVT.
The Infiniti QX55 should celebrate its official premiere in the coming winter or spring, and reach the retail in the summer of 2020.
