Infiniti will be releasing the next generation of its flagship SUV, the QX80, in approximately a year. According to CEO Peyman Kargar, the launch will herald the marque’s reboot in terms of design, comfort and luxury.
There is still no information available on the next generation. Kargar promises a drastically different design from the current generation, which you can see in the gallery here. All future Infiniti models will adopt this new design language.
Changing the approach to premium features and comfort should distance the QX80 from its more affordable same-platform cousins, the Nissan Armada and Patrol.
Finally, upgrading its image will enable Infiniti to reach its primary strategic goal at the moment, which is to take the fight to the premium automakers of Japan and Europe. The next-gen QX80 is envisioned as a worthy rival of the Lexus LX and the Range Rover, for example. Updating the marque’s corporate identity and dealership network should further help achieve these ambitious goals.
