Isuzu MU-X distances itself from Chevrolet Trailblazer

Judging by these patent pics of the upcoming Isuzu MU-X crossover, the premiere should be close at hand.

The D-Max SUV and truck are currently produced in Thailand. The truck model went into its third generation a year ago (see video), switching from the old General Motors platform to the one the Mazda BT-50 is based upon.

How is that relevant? The current-gen MU-X is essentially just a rebadged Chevrolet Trailblazer, whereas the new generation shares its principal design and tech with the aforementioned D-Max series. However, the MU-X has independent spring-based rear suspension instead of the solid beam with leaf springs that the D-Max pickup has.

The SUV will likely inherit the truck’s three-liter diesel engine rated at 190 hp (142 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. An Aisin six-speed auto transmission will send the power to all four wheels through a part-time AWD system with a reduction gear and a transfer case. The car will probably go RWD the rest of the time. All of this is pure conjecture, but we should know soon enough how much of it is true.
