Iran-based automotive company Kerman Motor has unveiled the PS1, a life-sized mockup of a sedan that it hopes to start producing soon.
Based on the images, the rear end of the car was closely copied from the JAC J5 (see video), but the front end looks authentic. According to the company, the model runs on JAC’s J4 platform and engine.
The equipment on board will include cruise control, air conditioning, a touch-sensitive multimedia interface, a pair of airbags, a multi-function steering wheel and a reversing camera.
Power for the Kerman PS1 will be provided by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine mated to a CVT gearbox. In the Chinese original, the drivetrain was capable of 113 PS (111 hp / 83 kW) and 146 Nm (108 lb-ft) of torque.
Kerman Motor has been on the market of Iran for over two decades now. For most of the time, it has sold Chery cars on the domestic market rebadged as ‘Fownix’ and ‘MVM’. Two years ago, the company decided to abandon the practice and instead make its own cars under its own brand, albeit partially based on JAC tech.
