The British supercar maker’s latest premiere is special because it exists exclusively in virtual reality.
The supercar, which is featured in the PS4-only video game Gran Turismo Sport, combines the features of such classics as the C-Type and D-Type with its own modern look. The cabin is as futuristic as it gets, with the driver and the passenger sitting on a sculpted floor surface that replaces the conventional seats.
Interestingly, the car comes equipped with a holographic assistant called KITT-E. The name evokes two associations at once. First – quite obviously – it reads as ‘kitty’. Second – less obviously – it references the K.I.T.T., the famous charismatic AI-powered supercar from the Knight Rider TV series.
The EV comes powered by three motors jointly rated at 1,005 horsepower (750 kilowatts) and 1,200 Newton-meters (885 pound-feet) of torque. It speeds up from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than two seconds and tops out at 320 km/h (199 mph).
One of the most interesting features of the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo comes in the form of its engine soundtrack. While electric cars are supposed to be silent most of the time, the developers felt like reminding everyone about the racing history of the marque and gave it the sound of the 3.8-liter six-cylinder mill that propelled the D-Type to victory in the 1957 Le-Mans race.
