Jaguar Racing materializes Vision Gran Turismo SV in real world

Jaguar received plenty of praise for integrating its virtual Vision Gran Turismo Coupe in the video game Gran Turismo Sport last year, so the racing subdivision of the company decided to produce a life-size replica of it.

Called the Vision Gran Turismo SV, the new electric racer is 5,540 mm (18.18 ft.) long – 861 mm (2.82 ft.) longer than its predecessor. Despite this, its wheelbase stays fixed at 2,721 mm (8.93 ft.). Additions include a new front splitter and a different rear wing with two automatically extending sections. The vehicle is said to produce 483 kg (1,065 lbs) of downforce going at 200 mph (322 km/h) and has a so-so drag ratio of 0.398.

Unlike the first design study from the video game, the new one has four motors instead of three. Mounted one per wheel, each motor comes with its own single-gear reducer. The cumulative power is estimated at 1,903 PS (1,877 hp / 1,400 kW), a substantial upgrade over the 1,020 PS (1,006 hp / 750 kW) from before. The torque now amounts to 3,360 Nm (2,478 lb-ft), which is almost triple the old 1,200 Nm (885 lb-ft).

The racer reportedly needs 1.65 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour (97 km/h), while its predecessor needed “less than 2 seconds”. The top speed rises from 322 km/h (200 mph) to 410 km/h (255 mph).

Jaguar will exhibit the life-size mockup of the Vision Gran Turismo SV in public as soon as the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. The car itself will be added to Gran Turismo Sport in 2021.
