Classic Jaguar runs on electric power

Whether you like it or not, electromods are all the rage now. Purists loathe the idea of stripping classic cars of their oily, noisy bits, but it is often a more cost-efficient and sound way to restore an old-timer without breaking the bank.

This was the case with this 1950 Jaguar, which ditched its original engine and transmission in favor of a Tesla Model 3 motor and 50-kWh battery. The project took over a year to complete, but culminated in a flawless-looking restomod with killer looks and modern car performance.

The only major drawback for those interested in dailying such a car is range, which for this Jag amounts to 175 km (109 miles) or so. The original Tesla Model 3 gets twice the range from the same powertrain. You might blame curb weight for it, but the electromod actually weighs more or less the same as the Tesla. In the end, the tuner responsible for the job says aerodynamics is the deciding factor: while good enough for an ICE car, it is nonetheless catastrophic for an EV.
