Jaguar Classic has announced the production launch of the all-electric Jaguar E-type roadster series styled after a classical convertible from the 1960s.
The Jaguar E-type premiered at the Monterey Car Week on August 24, 2018. The car sported an original bronze lacquering and had wheels with numerous spokes, something its style-conscious ancestors were famous for.
Its hood cover opens to reveal the traction battery with the engine located immediately behind it. It needs 6 to 8 hours to charge up from a regular wall socket.
The rear-wheel-driven roadster manages to successfully combine two usually clashing styles, the retro and the hi-tech. Its seats, doors, steering wheel and dashboard mimic those of vintage cars of the 20th century and go side-by-side with an infotainment system with an enormous touch-sensitive display, an all-digital instrument panel and a modern gearbox. The digital options are, well, optional, so if you’re a retro car purist, you may skip on them.
Jaguar E-type technical specifications and prices will be announced later. The car will probably end up with a 300-hp (225 kW) engine and a 40 kWh battery.
First vehicles will roll to their respective buyers in 2020 or later.
