This 58-year-old Jaguar E-Type has belonged to its current seller since 1978 and was extensively modified for motorsports use. The bidding has reached $88,000 USD with a few days remaining.
The coupe was stripped of all the excess weight imaginable, including aluminum bodywork and components and polycarbonate windows all around (except the windshield). Some lighting was added and custom rear fenders were installed to accommodate the widened track and new centerlock wheels wrapped in Hoosier tires.
The cabin was also stripped bare, leaving only two aluminum-frame seats with five-point safety harnesses. A roll cage and a fire extinguishing system were added.
New, powerful sway bar and adjustable Koni shocks can be found in the suspension, and the brakes are based on the components borrowed from later Jaguar E-Types.
The engine is not stock and features numerous modifications. It is a 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder bored out to four liters of displacement and outfitted with forged pistons, special valves and a trio of Weber carburetors.
Some optimizations were made to help the drivetrain withstand endurance races. This includes new radiators (including an oil radiator) and a custom exhaust system exiting from the left side of the car. The transmission is five-speed manual and features tighter gear ratios, a lightweight flywheel and a multi-plate clutch.
