The British Foreign Office will issue 30 official electric vehicles to its representatives in embassies all around the world in a move to become the planet’s cleanest diplomatic agency.
The vehicle of choice is the Jaguar I-Pace SUV, which you can see in our gallery and the video here. The switch will occur in January – April 2020. In all likelihood, ambassadors will be the first to get the EVs, followed by the rest of diplomatic workers. By 2022, around 25% of British Foreign Office representatives will have switched, and by 2030, the ministry will have no ICE-powered vehicles remaining in use.
The environmental concerns go farther than that, though. The British administration also plans to install solar panels on select diplomatic missions and ban the use of plastic cups.
In related news, the fifth generation of Jaguar XJ comes out next year first as an EV and later as a hybrid car. This makes it a potential vehicle of choice for the Foreign Office.
Teresa May, Ex-Prime Minister of Great Britain, suggested banning all ICE-powered cars in the country by the year 2050, but this hovers in the air right now with other countries reluctant to support the initiative.
