Jaguar CEO Thierry Bollore believes that a complete switch to electric car production will raise the perceived status of the marque and enable it to move upmarket. This would not only raise profit margins, but also let the company compete against the likes of Bentley.
Two differently sized crossover SUVs and a coupe will be the first to enter the new line of vehicles. Their design philosophy has largely been finalized already, but work is still underway on a dedicated EV platform and associated technologies.
According to Jaguar, it might end up purchasing some ready solutions from other car companies, but the cars themselves will still be 100% original. Furthermore, they are envisioned as groundbreaking and innovative, just like the E-Type when it came out. Prices will probably begin above £100,000.
Out of all Jaguar models currently on the market, the i-Pace EV pictured here should be the only one to remain. All new models will come based on a different platform. As a design study of sorts, the i-Pace might provide some ideas for these new models – but that’s it.
The strategy shift will be complete in mid-2020s, the company claims.
Earlier this year, Jaguar announced a move away from the new electric car architecture it designed for the flagship SUV named XJ and large crossover dubbed J-Pace, deeming it not good enough.
