Jaguar I-Pace gets turned into a lightly armored and mobile e-SUV

Armormax, an armoring specialist based in South Africa, has worked its magic on the Jaguar I-Pace, protecting it with just enough plating to withstand handgun fire. As a result, the car never became heavy and slow.

The treatment included armored inserts for the bodywork, fun-flat tires and 22mm thick windows all around. According to the company, the protection it used was the world’s lightest by far and corresponded to the B4 standard – not perfect, but enough to stop sustained pistol fire.

The project was carried out together with the local office of Jaguar Land Rover, ensuring delicate modifications and the continued validity of OEM warranty.

This is not the first armored electric car on record: as long as four years ago, a team in Mexico armored a Tesla Model X, reducing its range by mere 3-5 percent. In June this year, BMW mentioned an intention to create armored vehicles straight on the assembly line with the i7 sedan as the starting point.
